How to renew a Drivers License in Nigeria

Renewing your driver’s license in Nigeria is a straightforward process that ensures you remain legally authorized to drive. The renewal can be done online through the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) portal and requires completing an application form, making a payment, and visiting a designated Driver’s License Center (DLC) for biometric verification (if necessary). Below is a step-by-step guide to help you complete the process smoothly.

Step 1: Visit the FRSC Portal
Go to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) website:

Step 2: Select “Renew Driver’s License”
On the homepage, click on “DL Application” and choose “Renewal of Driver’s License” from the dropdown options.

Enter your driver’s license number and date of birth to retrieve your records.

Step 3: Fill Out the Application Form
Complete the required details in the online form.

Select your preferred FRSC Capture Center for biometric verification.

Step 4: Make Payment
Pay the renewal fee online via Remita or at a designated bank.
Fees depend on the license duration:

  • 3 years: ₦10,000
  • 5 years: ₦15,000
    (These fees may vary by state.)

Step 5: Print and Submit Required Documents
After payment, print the acknowledgment slip and take it to your chosen FRSC office, along with:

  • Expired driver’s license
  • Payment receipt
  • National Identification Number (NIN) slip
  • Passport photograph (if required)

Step 6: Biometric Capture and Verification
If your biometric data is already in the system, you may not need to undergo another capture.

If biometric capture is required, visit the designated Driver’s License Center (DLC) for fingerprint and photo capture.

Step 7: Receive Temporary License
You will be issued a temporary driver’s license valid for 60 days.

Your permanent driver’s license will be ready for collection at the FRSC office within 2-3 months.
