Kalabari Stakeholders Honour Wike Amidst Rivers State Political Tensions

Stakeholders from the Kalabari Kingdom gathered in Abalama Town, Rivers State, on March 15 for a grand civic reception and thanksgiving service in honour of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike. Organized by Ijaw stakeholders under the New Associates group, the event celebrated Wike’s contributions to the region with cultural performances and tributes.

Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, praised Wike’s dedication to inclusivity and governance, reaffirming Kalabari’s support. Chief George Kelly, Director General of the Border Community Development Agency, acknowledged Wike’s role in securing an Ijaw governor for the state.

In his speech, Wike expressed gratitude for the support and dismissed claims of ethnic division. Addressing the political situation in Rivers State, he criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s alliances with former political opponents and his handling of Assembly members’ allowances. Wike reaffirmed that he would not interfere with legislative duties and accused the Governor of repeatedly breaking agreements, including those mediated by President Bola Tinubu.

He urged the Governor to focus on governance rather than political conflicts, warning that poor counsel and power struggles could destabilize the administration.
